Hello and Peace to all who have arrived at this page.
My name is Desi, and I have been a WorkLight member since 2007. I have extended my enjoyment in technology by bringing God closer to you through this website. "Gilroy Prays at 3" has its special history, having been conceived around a kitchen table surrounded by my WorkLight sisters and me during a time of darkness.
One afternoon, several weeks after the death of George Floyd (May 25, 2020), demonstrations and protests were happening throughout our country and the world. In our WorkLight group, tensions were also apparent. As the country divided, our group was slowly moving apart. At one of our sisters' houses, having a chapter meeting, right in her kitchen, the simmering anger and deep sadness from some of our sisters were felt. Plunged into a mixed circle of expressions of confusion about the news of racism along with misunderstandings and misinterpretations, there were visible signs of insensitivity. In that moment of darkness, with the help of our Advocate, the Holy Spirit, we were guided back to the light. We were moved not to challenge the prejudices heard nor admonish those angrily hurting. Yet, we were inspired to PRAY simply. At that moment, "Gilroy Prays" was conceived.
After a few weeks passed and still energized from this act of igniting peace, we, WorkLight sisters agreed to mark our clocks at 3 in the afternoon. Wherever we would be, we would stop and pray for PEACE - PEACE in everyone's hearts, in our families, in our town of Gilroy and Morgan Hill, in our government, schools, churches, and businesses; PEACE throughout California and PEACE in our country extending over borders to the edge of the Americas, stretching above oceans and mountains, soon covering the whole world. This is what we promised to do every day at 3 PM. Pray for PEACE everywhere.
Looking back, our story seems to be a metaphor of Easter Sunday. "Gilroy Prays at 3" is the hand of Jesus who helped save our group of sisters from the dark effects of social injustice and freeing us from the sin of division and racial prejudice, to unite us again, to firmly accept His teachings of Love, and to share God's shining light burning in us. It's like we resurrected and renewed ourselves. From that day onward, we committed to spread this special light of Jesus through prayer every day at 3 o'clock in the afternoon.

We spread the light of Jesus as we continue to build God's Kingdom alive in our world.
"I have come to set the earth on fire, and how I wish it were already blazing!" (Lk 12:49)
"Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." (Mt 28:19-20)
Just like prayer, a simple task, we bring God's Kingdom alive in the lives of sisters gathered in our prayer groups by initially listening to God's Word and the personal stories presented. That's the easy part.
Here's where the work comes in: Then, believing the Holy Spirit is working in each of us to surrender our lives, our troubles, our joys, surrendering ALL to God, Our Loving Father, we bring our faith into our actions wherever we are. Each place that we saunter about, meander through, we communicate with everyone under God's realm of love. Because we believe in obeying the will of God, we accept God's blessings and forgiveness, especially when we struggle and choose our will over His, sometimes unnoticeably walking further away from Him.
Nevertheless, we believe we will be transformed to be renewed sons and daughters of God through life's difficulties, returning to God.
For the disciple, James did say,
"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds.." (James 1:2 NIV)
We are told,
Each of us has a special gift from the Holy Spirit. Through these gifts, we support our sisters and brothers and build each other up and soon, we find ourselves overcoming life's tribulations, singing songs of praise and victory!
